Which is better to use zirconium ball, steel ball, alumina grinding ball in ball mill

At present, ceramic balls and alumina balls are mainly used for grinding in the market because of its low price. At least use zirconium balls, steel balls, and alumina grinding balls. This should be considered based on the properties of the materials, electricity costs, and grinding efficiency.

Generally, we classify 60%-65% alumina content as medium aluminum balls, 75%-80% alumina content as medium-high aluminum balls, and over 90% alumina content as high-aluminum balls. Among them, the high-alumina balls are subdivided into 90 porcelain, 92 porcelain, 95 porcelain and 99 porcelain. Due to its extremely high production cost, few large-scale manufacturers produce 99 porcelain in large quantities. At present, it is mainly made by hand by some special ceramic factories.

Medium alumina balls and medium-high alumina balls are accepted by most ceramic factories due to their lower prices, and are mainly used for grinding ceramic blanks. High-alumina balls are widely used in different types of ceramics, enamels, glass, and chemicals due to their excellent characteristics such as high strength, high hardness, high wear resistance, high specific gravity, small size, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and non-polluting. For the finishing and deep processing of thick and hard materials in factories, among them, high-aluminum balls with 92 content are the most commonly used.


In terms of wear alone, steel balls wear the most, followed by alumina grinding balls, and zirconia balls the least.


Zirconia balls and steel balls have better toughness, while alumina grinding balls are worse.
