How to use high aluminum grinding balls in the cement industry

1. The raw material Al2O3 is very important as the raw material of alumina ball in cement. Its particle morphology and size will affect the quality of cement alumina ball. Rough surface particles have relatively large specific surface area or surface energy, so their sintering driving force is large, easy to sinter, sintering density is large, and pores are small and few. Granular particles with a smooth surface have a relatively small specific surface area or surface energy, so their sintering driving force is small, and it is not easy to sinter. The sintered density of ceramics is relatively low, and the cavities are large. Compared with granular particles, plate-shaped particles have a larger specific surface area, a larger driving force for sintering, and are easy to sinter. The sintered density of alumina balls is higher. Compared with the green body composed of small hard agglomerates and non-agglomerated bodies, the porosity is higher, the green body density is lower, the density of alumina ball is also lower, and the sintered density of ceramics is lower. When the grain size is relatively small, the wear mechanism is mainly plastic deformation and partial transgranular fracture, resulting in slight wear. When the crystal grains are relatively coarse, the main wear mechanism is the occurrence of grain boundary fracture, resulting in severe wear. Therefore, the smaller the crystal grains, the better the wear resistance of the ceramic. In addition, compared with large particles, small particles have a relatively large specific surface area or surface energy, so their sintering driving force is large, the sintering temperature is low, and the sintering density is higher.

2. Sintering aid A suitable sintering aid reduces the sintering temperature, improves the microstructure of the ceramic, improves the mechanical properties, and thereby improves the wear resistance of the cement alumina ball. The quality of the sintering aid includes quantity, phase composition, chemical composition and fineness. The use of sintering aids that emit gas and phase change at high temperatures should be avoided as much as possible, so as to avoid new defects, which will affect the densification and qualification rate of cement alumina balls and reduce the competitiveness of products.

3. The molding adopts isostatic pressure molding technology to overcome the defects of other molding methods such as hollow, layered, low density and uneven density. The particle size, shape and additives of the raw materials will affect the isostatic pressing. The molding pressure and holding time affect the density, sintering shrinkage rate, and sintering temperature of the green body. Therefore, it is necessary to use appropriate raw materials and scientific molding technology to ensure that the green body has good sintering characteristics.

4. Sintering system. Excessive sintering temperature and long holding time will promote the growth of Al2O3 crystals and increase the amount of liquid phase. This will not only reduce the strength of the cement grinding ball, but also weaken the wear resistance. Of course, if the temperature is too low and the sintering density decreases, the wear resistance of the cement alumina ball will also decrease. The use of low-temperature fast burning technology can obtain significant energy-saving benefits, and at the same time, it can inhibit the growth of the grains of cement grinding balls, which is beneficial to improve the strength and toughness of the product, thereby improving the wear resistance of the grinding balls.
